Stephenville

Stephenville sits in Erath County on a mix of limestone bedrock, calcareous clay, and the occasional pocket of expansive Houston Black clay. Compared to north Texas, the soils here are friendlier to concrete — bedrock is often within reach for foundation piers, and the swelling clays that plague DFW are concentrated in specific micro-areas rather than spread across every lot.

The trade-off is that Erath County is rural. Residential, agricultural, and small-commercial work share the same crew schedule. We pour driveways and patios for homes in town, then drive 20 miles to pour an equipment pad for a working ranch the same afternoon. Travel and staging are built into how we quote out here — we don't price a Stephenville project like a Dallas project, because the on-site logistics are different.

A meaningful share of our Stephenville work is agricultural: hay-storage slabs, cattle-pen flatwork, equipment pads, tractor barn floors, and hose-down areas for processing operations. These slabs see different load profiles than residential — heavy point loads from equipment tires, repeated impact from livestock, and chemical exposure from cleaning agents. We spec thicker slabs (5–6 inches), tighter rebar, and the right air-entrainment for the freeze-thaw cycles common to central Texas winters.

We coordinate with septic installers and surveyors on every new install to avoid pouring over a drainfield or blocking the inspection ports. Driveway and approach grading also has to keep stormwater away from the house pad and out of the leach field — a detail that's easy to get wrong on a sloped rural lot.

Freezes happen here. Stephenville hits low-20s for a handful of nights every winter, and the freeze-thaw cycle is real. We use air-entrained mixes on all exterior flatwork, properly cure in the first 7 days, and seal pool decks and patios with UV-stable acrylic to keep moisture out of the surface. The difference between a 10-year slab and a 30-year slab in this climate is the first 96 hours after the pour.
